Your host, Ben Wilkinson, is a born and bred Tasmanian with years of experience working across tourism, trade and export for the Tasmanian Government. Ben also operates Tasmanian Photography Tours, a business that started from sharing his passion for Tasmania’s wild places with others.
Outside of work, a lifetime of hiking, photography and exploring the island has taken him well beyond the usual tourist trail. Ben has built a deep network of local connections and a genuine understanding of the people, places and stories that make Tasmania special. It means you receive access to the hidden corners, local producers and experiences that come only from a lifetime of exploration and hard work.
Ben holds the keys to the city in the truest sense, his knowledge, standing and contacts across Tasmania's tourism and hospitality world open doors that would otherwise stay closed. An additional benefit is Ben’s skill with a camera. If you would like, Ben can capture images of your experience which will be provided to you free of charge, post tour, as digital downloads.
A private vehicle, a fine selection of local treats and your personal host and photographer accompany you. The day moves at your direction.

With an impressive career spanning Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale, Tower Estate in the Hunter Valley and the Australian Wine Research Institute, Samantha brings a depth of knowledge and perspective to every tasting. Her approach to winemaking is reflected in Stargazer’s small-batch, thoughtfully crafted wines.
Overlooking the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines of the Palisander vineyard, the architecturally designed tasting room is an elegant setting to explore a selection of current releases, along with a few special bottles from her cellar.

Tasmania is home to some of the world’s most unique and curious creatures, many of which are found nowhere else on Earth.
Enjoy an exclusive, private 3 hour Bonorong experience with this fully guided, conservation-focused tour. There will be no other guests joining your tour, allowing for a more personalised, flexible and intimate wildlife experience.
For 3 hours, your personal Bonorong guide will immerse you in Tasmanian wildlife, introducing you to Bonorong’s resident animals and sharing their individual stories. You will also receive a guided tour of ‘The Journey’, an interpretive walkway that takes you through the journey of an injured animal, giving you more information on Bonorong’s Wildlife Rescue Service and a look inside the Wildlife Hospital that is crucial to the core work of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing injured wildlife.
Following this experience, your host will take you to a local Hobart eatery for lunch. A selection of options will be provided before the day, allowing the lunch stop to be tailored to your tastes.
Your final stop of the day will be for a private tour of Tasmania’s Raptor Refuge. It's a rare opportunity to see the raptor rehabilitation facility first-hand, where they've helped injured birds of prey return to the wild for over 20 years. Journey deep into Tasmania’s World Heritage wilderness, where ancient rainforests, towering mountains, iconic waterfalls and remote landscapes reveal the island at its most spectacular.
Witnessing the Aurora Australis is one of Tasmania's most sought-after natural experiences, but it is also one of the most elusive. Unlike attractions that can be scheduled, the Southern Lights depend on a rare combination of solar activity, clear skies, darkness and favourable weather conditions.
Even with careful planning and expert forecasting, there are no guarantees. When everything aligns, however, the reward is extraordinary. Curtains of green, pink and purple light dance across the southern sky, creating a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle that few people are fortunate enough to witness.
Aurora Alert Register
When the conditions indicate a strong likelihood of the Southern Lights being visible from southern Tasmania and the skies are free of cloud, guests who have registered their interest will receive an alert, giving them the opportunity to join a guided aurora experience at short notice.
While sightings can never be guaranteed, this service provides guests with the best possible chance of witnessing one of Tasmania's most spectacular natural phenomena.
Please note:
Tasmania's weather is ever changing and unpredictable. This tour requires clear skies for a premium experience. The Aurora experience operates under a separate 24 hour cancellation policy, because departures are activated by weather rather than scheduled in advance. If we judge that conditions are unsuitable, or unsafe, we will make that call.
No payment is taken when you register. The $250 is payable on the day, only if your tour goes ahead.
